Guided by National Geographic photographer Sam Smith, and set in one of Africa’s prime game reserves, this photo safari is an opportunity of a life-time. Sharpen your wildlife photography skills during close encounters with an impressive array African wildlife, including the famous Big Five, all from the comfort of open game drive vehicles guided by wildlife experts. This workshop provides an exciting opportunity for photographers of all levels, and can be combined with a photographic exploration of Cape Town.

Day 1 Arrival at Hoedspruit Airport,
where you will be met by one our team members and driven to Djuma Game Reserve. After settling in, you’ll be treated to your first game drive.

Day 2-4 We’ll start each day with a three-hour game drive. As the African sun shines its first light, we’ll be tracking the Big Five as they are their most active. You’ll be guided by an experienced ranger and tracker, and accompanied by Tyrone for photographic guidance. A full and delicious breakfast will be waiting for you at the lodge when you return, and there will be time for photography workshops, editing, and relaxing afterwards. After lunch, at the end of the afternoon, we’ll head out for another three-hour game drive. This time we’ll photograph in the last warm light of the day, and experience the bush as night is falling. The day will be concluded by an indulgent dinner.

Day 5 We’ll mix things up with a day-trip to Blyde River Canyon, a 30-kilometer long natural wonder that offers breathtaking views of steep cliffs and green lowveld far below. One of the world’s largest canyons, Blyde River Canyon is outstanding for landscape photography.

Day 6 Another full day at Djuma Game Reserve. Day 7 After a last game drive at sunrise, we’ll be wrapping up. You’ll be driven back to the airport, where you will either make your own way, or fly to Cape Town, if you are joining us for that part of the trip.

Price: $3835 per person

The price includes:
  • Accommodation at Galago Lodge in Djuma Private Game Reserve; comfortable accommodation in the middle of the African bush. We will have exclusive use of the lodge. (Accommodation is on a double occupancy basis – please enquire about single supplements if you’re interested.)
  • Three meals a day
  • Two game drives a day in private open game drive vehicles, accompanied by professional guides and trackers
  • Photographic tutoring by Tyrone TurnerDay trip to Blyde River Canyon
  • Airport transfers from Nelspruit Airport
  • An indirect contribution to the Penda Trust, as part of our proceeds go towards funding the running costs of our charity
  • A tree that will be planted on your behalf by Greenpop, as a way to help compensate for your carbon footprint
